Greek philosopher Tolomei first mentioned the island
of Murter under the name of Scardon. This is the island
of the Šibenik archipelago, which is the greatest in
size and the closest to the land. The greatest part
of the island is covered by many centuries-old olive
and fig trees and at the same time these are the chief
traditional cultures grown by local people, but in
recent times due to extraordinary natural possibilities,
tourism is more and more becoming the moving force
of this island's development.
Slanica, Kosirina and Lovišće are beautiful pebbly
coves, connected with a white path of stones forming
a string of pearls around the entire island. Surrounded
by many islands and islets it makes a beautiful vista,
which will undoubtedly remain deeply routed in your
memory.
Thanks to its geographical position, the proximity
of the Kornati archipelago and connection with the
land by the bridge in Tisno the island of Murter with
its small towns Jezera, Betina, Murter and Tisno is
the most important nautical base on the Adriatic. Murter
can be easily traveled across on a bicycle and between
the small towns Tisno and Jezera, there is pathway
that is ideal for walks and jogging. |
