How to reach Croatia by car
   

Documents: : to enter Croatia you need a driver’s licence, registration document and motorcar insurance card
Maximum speed:
In towns: 50 km/h
Outside inhabited areas: 80 km/h
On the roads exclusively for vehicles: 100 km/h
On highways: 130 km/h
For trailer vans: 80 km/h
For buses and buses with a small trailer: 80 km/h


Rain: when the road is wet, you should slow down your vehicle and adjust your speed to weather conditions. We recommend you to drive with dimmed headlights night and day.
Do not use mobile phones when driving!
Permitted level of alcohol in blood: 0,0 ppm.
Safety belt is OBLIGATORY for the driver and the passengers in the front and in the back seats if possible.

Gas stations:
They are open from 7 to 17 h or 18 h every day, in summer to 22 h.
Standby gas stations in big towns and on big international roads are open 0-24 h.
All gas stations keep: Eurosuper 95, Super 98, Eurosuper Plus 98, Normal and Euro Diesel fuel and in big towns they also keep bottled cooking gas.

Basic procedure in the case of a car accident:
First, call the police and notify them of the accident (telephone number 92).
Secure the place of the accident (place the triangle!) and take other measures to prevent further possible danger.
Wait for the police.
You can get the information on what to do in the case of a car accident, on Croatian insurance companies, repair shops and other relevant information from the policemen who examined the place of the accident.
In the case the vehicle is damaged in any way, be sure to ask the police for the document proving it without which you cannot pass the Croatian border.

Car tickets for most common traffic offences:
exceeding the speed limit by 30 km/h in an inhabited area and exceeding the speed limit by 50 km/h outside an inhabited area - 500 kn
exceeding the speed limit by 10 - 30 km/h in an inhabited area and exceeding the speed limit by 30-50 km/h outside an inhabited area - 200 kn
exceeding the speed limit by 10 km/h in an inhabited area and exceeding the speed limit by 10-30 km/h outside an inhabited area - 100 kn
disregarding the yield sign - 500 kn
drunk driving - 500 kn and the seizure of driver’s licence
speed not adjusted to weather conditions - 200 kn
illegal parking and stopping - 100 kn
not wearing a seat belt - 100 kn

  In order to secure the execution of the fine or as a safety measure and to ensure that the person assist to the offence procedure, the authorized official person can keep the passport belonging to a foreign citizen until the process will have finished, which is 48 h at most.
