German and Italian troops occupy the then Yugoslavia. The organized partisan resistance begins, which in Yugoslavia was lead by Croatian anti-fascists. |

People’s Republic of Yugoslavia was declared and present-day Croatia became its federative state. |

First multiparty elections after the Second World War are held. The Parliament elects Franjo Tuđman Ph. D. to be the first president. |

Croatia declared its independency; the beginning of Serbian rebellion, backed by Yogoslavian People’s Army and Serbia, resulting in the occupation of one third of the territory of Croatia. |

Republic of Croatia becomes a member of United Nations. |
